Creating and viewing RFIs from drawings

Use an RFI pin to keep a formal question connected to the exact drawing location that prompted it.

Best for: Project members raising or reviewing formal questions · Requires: RFI access in addition to drawing access.

Create an RFI from a sheet

1. Open the relevant sheet and revision.
2. Choose the RFI pin tool.
3. Place the pin at the affected location.
4. Create a draft RFI or connect an existing one.
5. Add the RFI details and continue the normal review workflow.

The pin gives the RFI drawing context, but it does not replace a clear title and question. Write the RFI so it still makes sense when read outside the viewer.

Browse RFIs in the viewer

Open the viewer menu and choose RFIs. The side panel lets you browse accessible RFIs and drafts, open their details, and see associated markup or comments.

Selecting an RFI can bring its drawing markup into focus. When an RFI covers several locations, use its marked-up sheets to move through the relevant context.

Draft visibility

Draft RFIs may be limited to their creator or users with broader RFI access. Publishing drawing sheets does not publish an RFI, and sharing a Topic does not automatically change RFI status.

Permissions

RFI mode requires permission to view RFIs. Creating or editing an RFI requires the corresponding write permission. Some project roles, including bidders, may not see the RFI pin tool even when they can view drawings.

If an RFI pin is visible but its details are not, your RFI access may be more limited than your drawing access.
