Collaboration records
Choosing Topics, comments, and Threads
Choose a record based on where the conversation will make sense later, not just where you happen to start typing.

Choose a record based on where the conversation will make sense later, not just where you happen to start typing.
Best for: Everyone collaborating on project work · Outcome: Put coordination in the right place.
- Use a Topic when drawing markup and conversation should stay together as a named coordination layer, possibly across several sheets.
- Use a comment for one message on an existing record or drawing location.
- Use a Thread to follow the first comment and all replies as one resolvable conversation.
- Use an internal project discussion when the conversation is project-wide and does not belong to a particular RFI, Topic, drawing pin, or other record.
- Use a structured record such as an RFI, Submittal, or Quality Item when status, formal response, assignment, or workflow history matters.
A Topic may contain several comment Threads. Threads do not replace Topics; they provide a unified inbox for conversations from many parent records.
